Path of Woad

Primal Power Courses Through You

Those barbarians who follow the path of woad can channel primal power, even when they are raging. While they are rarely leaders, their wisdom is highly respected in their tribes, where they often provide minor healing, lead spirit journeys, and other rites.

The power of the Woad is almost impossible to teach, and must instead be discovered in a neverending journey of discovery, both of nature and oneself. Woad-wielders cover their bodies in blue tattoos, often symbolizing the spirits of nature that they have met, or as a memento of battles they have fought.

Level 3: Spellcasting

You gain the ability to cast spells to aid you in your journeys, and your Rage no longer prevents you from can casting spells, but you cannot concentrate on them. Additionally, Reckless Attack also gives its benefits to any spell attack rolls you make.

Cantrips

You learn two cantrips from the Druid spell list. You learn another Druid cantrip of your choice at 6th and 12th level.

Spell Slots

The Path of Woad spellcasting table below shows you many spell slots you have to cast your spells. To cast a spell you have prepared, you must expend a spell slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

Prepared Spells

You prepare three 1st-level Druid spells of your choice. The Prepared Spells column of the Path of Woad Spellcasting Table shows when you learn more Druid spells. Each spell you learn must be of a level you have spell slots. For example, when you reach Barbarian level 7, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

Whenever you gain a Barbarian level, you can replace one of the Druid spells you have prepared with another spell of your choice from the Druid spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability

Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your Druid spells. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell references your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a Druid spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Level 3: Mystical Tattoos

Your skin is covered in tattoos that ward you from harm. You can use your Wisdom instead of your Dexterity when computing your AC with Unarmored Defense, and while you benefit from Unarmored Defense, you have resistance to damage from spells.

Level 6: Mindless Focus

Your Rage no longer prevents you from concentrating on spells, and while you are concentrating on a spell, your Rage damage bonus increases by the spell's level.

Level 10: Instinctive Magic

If you enter Rage on the first turn of combat, you can spend an additional use of Rage to cast a spell with a casting time of 1 Action as part of the Bonus Action you used to activate Rage.

Level 14: Woad Walker

You can cast Transport Via Plants once per long rest. When you do so, all creatures who are transported by the spell also gain the benefits of the Longstrider spell.
