Presage the Future Through Song

In the middle of the tent, an old woman sits on a dais, dressed in many layers of furs and surrounded by a small audience. She is perfectly still, her eyes closed and her face furrowed in deep meditation. Only the fragrant trail of incense-smoke moves in the tent. Suddenly, she snaps her head backwards and breaks out in an otherworldly song, the words impossible to discern. This goes on for several minutes before calm descends on the tent.

If it happens, it will happen on the eve of the solstice," she says with a hoarse voice. "Now leave me, I heard many horrible things in my song, and must rest.

A Truesinger can descend to a deeper level of consciousness, where they glimpse events to come, events that have been, or events happening right now in other places. In this prophetic state, they lose control over their voice, and the words they sing are omens of the future.

This ancient form of divination originated with nomadic tribes of reindeer-herders in the polar regions of the world. It is not unusual for charlatans to imitate the trances as an act, and some of these deceivers may even have some powers of foresight, but their omens are nothing compared to real Truesingers.

Level 3: Glimpse of Foresight

When you cast a spell using a spell slot, you gain an Omen. You can only have a number of Omens equal to your proficiency bonus, and your unused Omens fade when you finish a long rest.

Whenever a creature you can see within 60 feet of you makes a d20 Test, you can use your Reaction and spend an Omen to force the creature to reroll that Test. You choose which result is used. You cannot use this if the creature rolled a 1 or a 20.

Level 3: Prophetic Repertoire

You learn one leveled spell of your choice from the Divination school of magic. The spell can be from any spell list, but must be of a level you have spell slots for (as per the Bard table). When you gain a level in this class, you can replace the spell with another eligible spell.

Additionally, you do not need to supply material components for any Divination spell you cast, even consumed ones.

Level 6: Truesinging Trance

You have learned to lower your consciousness into a prophetic stupor. When you do so, your consciousness leaves your body, and the only thing you remember afterwards are the words of omen that you speak. As a bonus action, you enter a trance for 1 minute, or until you become Incapacitated. For the duration, you gain the following benefits:

  • You are unable to communicate verbally as you speak in tongues (you can still perform Verbal components).
  • You have advantage on Constitution saving throws to maintain Concentration on spells.
  • You become immune to the Charmed and Frightened conditions.
  • When you use Glimpse of Foresight, the magic lingers around the creature. They gain advantage or disadvantage (your choice) on the next d20 Test they make.

Once you do this, you cannot do so again until you finish a short rest. You can also expend a level 2+ spell slot to restore your use of this feature (no action required).

Level 14: True Omen

When you use Glimpse of Foresight, you can spend an additional Omen to make the test automatically succeed or fail instead of rolling. Once you do so, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.

Additionally, when you finish a long rest, you now start with 2 (1d4) Omens.
