Sorcerers

Magic from the Blood

Geniweave Mageblood, human weaveborn sorcerer

Sorcerers are born with innate arcane ability, which they must contend with for good or bad. Some are proud and arrogant, believing their inherited powers elevates them above the common folk. Others are more happy-go-lucky, and take each day for what it gives.

A sorcerer's magic is highly influenced by their specific powers. Perhaps a sorcerer only knows illusion and enchantment spells, or only uses spells that deals thunder and lightning damage. A sorcerer is more likely than other spellcasters to be fixated on a single aspect of their spellcasting, and derive their versatility from metamagic rather than a wide spell selection.

Many sorcerers go their whole life without actual arcane training, relying on their innate magical instinct to mature their powers. Others see their powers as a call for research, and travel the world trying to understand how they became this way.

Subclasses

A sorcerer's subclass represents the source of their innate magic. This is most often the result of ancestry, or circumstances of their birth. Some sorcerers come from large families with similar powers, others do not know exactly why they have their powers.

Aberrant Sorcery

The far realms of the outer planes contain many ancient eldritch beings, and these sorcerers are their mortal progeny. They often have strange appearances, and their magic is tinged with psionic flair.

Clockwork Sorcery

These sorcerers have been touched by lawful energy. They have some control over the passage of time, often gaining glimpses of foresight, or being able to reverse it momentarily. They often become magical researchers, trying to find out the origin of their powers.

Draconic Sorcery

Sorcerers with dragon blood take on the aspects of the type of dragon they inherit from. Just like their primal progenitors, they are formidable elemental spellcasters. They might work for a dragon, perhaps even their ancestor, as a mortal agent in the dragon war.

Wild Magic

This is the most common type of sorcerer, without much control over their powers. Their magic is unpredictable, and can have many unintended consequences. Some sorcerers consider this more of a curse then a blessing. As they become more powerful, these sorcerers gradually gain more control.

Sorcerers of the Past

Sacella the Blessed

(aasimar, LG, 180-462): The first Empress of Tec, a powerful divine sorcerer who is said to have been the daughter of Phatos. During her long reign, Tec entered into a period of unprecedented prosperity that later became known as the Age of the Three Great Empresses, after Sacella and her two successors, Chloe and Licinia.

Curtis Hollyfield

(human, NG, 1371-1403): Curtis "the Unfortunate" was somewhat dimwitted, but without evil in his heart. He was however cursed with vast magical powers he had no control over. Chaos followed in his footsteps, as his wild magic swelled over often and harshly. One day, he accidentally set fire to a chicken coop in Owl Rock, and when a mob cornered him afterwards, the stress made him surge so hard he exploded in a storm of feathers and wild magic.

Chiogosa the Diplomat

(silver dragonborn, LG, 1268-1341): Daughter of Tepyristes, Chiogosa was a powerful sorceress. She was sent to Covenant as an envoy of the dragons, and eventually was appointed as Grand Emissary on the Estian Council, brokering several important deals with foreign nations.
