Some rogues act on behalf of dark entities, advancing shadowy plots against civilization under the cover of darkness. They are often assassins or spies sent to infiltrate the ranks of an organization, slowly gaining their trust until the time to strike comes.
The motivations of these agents can vary wildly. While some certainly act out of conviction for the Shadow's cause, others do it out of greed, hoping that the spoils of war will fall to them. Yet others joined the ranks of Shadow to gain the tools to exact their vengeance, no matter the cost.
Level 3: Marked for Death
After you hit a creature with Sneak Attack, it becomes Marked for Death. If you hit it with Sneak Attack again, the Mark gains an additional stack, up to 3. You gain the following benefits against creatures you have Marked:
- Sneak Attack gains one additional damage die for each stack.
- The target counts as having one of your allies adjacent to them for the purposes of triggering Sneak Attack.
- The target cannot benefit from the Invisible condition against you, and you have advantage on ability checks to track the target.
You can only have one creature Marked for Death at a time, and the Mark fades when you finish a long rest.
Level 3: Born of Darkness
You gain Darkvision with a range of 60 feet. If you already had Darkvision, its range increases by 60 feet.
Level 9: Shadow Jaunt
As part of a melee attack on your turn while you have the Invisible condition, you can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space that is adjacent to the target creature. The Invisible condition does not fade until the attack is resolved.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all uses when you finish a long rest.
Level 9: Cunning Strike: Terrorize
You gain an additional Cunning Strike option:
- Terrorize (Cost: 1d6): The target must make a Wisdom saving throw or become Frightened of you for 1 minute. The target can repeat the save at the end of its turn, ending the effect on a success.
Level 13: One with the Darkness
The darkness is your preferred hunting ground. While you are in Darkness, the range of your Shadow Jaunt doubles, and you have the Invisible condition to all creatures that rely on Darkvision to perceive you.
Level 17: Eviscerate
When you hit a creature with three stacks of Marked for Death with Sneak Attack, you can turn the attack into a critical hit. Afterwards, all applications of Marked for Death fades from the target.
Additionally, if you have no uses of Shadow Jaunt remaining when you roll initiative, you regain a single use.
