Bladesinger

Sword and Sorcery in Perfect Harmony

Lumiel Gallaeth, elven bladesinger

Originating among elves, this wizardly tradition blends swordplay and dance in an elegant and deadly package. Originally a secret art only taught to elves, it has gained some traction among members of other races, who honor and expand on the elven ways. A Bladesinger uses precise maneuvers to outwit their opponent, combined with magical wards to keep them safe while they unleash their magic for both attack and defense. A Bladesinger in action is a sublime display of elegance and beauty, accompanied by a singing blade. This is an update of the 2014 Bladesinger from TCoE, and a redux of the version from FR:HoF.

The greatest Bladesinger who ever lived was Aerilwyn Nilteril, who wielded Nilisnebar, the Amber Xiphos when she commanded the Bladesinger Guard, an elite force of Bladesingers in the service of the Teccan Empire.

Level 3: Training in War and Song

You become trained in light armor, and you gain proficiency with simple and martial melee weapons which have the Finesse property. You can use weapons you are proficient with as spellcasting foci for your Wizard spells.

Additionally, you gain proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Athletics, Acrobatics, Performance, or Persuasion.

Level 3: Bladesong

You can invoke an elven magic called the Bladesong, provided you aren't wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield. It graces you with supernatural speed, agility, and focus.

You can use a bonus action to start the Bladesong, which lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are Incapacitated, if you don medium or heavy armor or a shield, or if you attack with a non-Finesse weapon. You can also dismiss the Bladesong at any time (no action required).

While your Bladesong is active, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain a bonus to your AC equal to your Intelligence modifier
  • Your walking speed increases by 10 feet
  • You have advantage on Acrobatics checks and Dexterity saving throws
  • You can add your Intelligence modifier to all Constitution saving throws you make to maintain your concentration on a spell

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Level 6: Extra Attack

When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make two attacks, and you can cast one of your cantrips in place of one of those attacks. The cantrip must have a casting time of 1 Action.

Level 10: Song of Defense

Your voice weaves an magical ward around you, carried by your melodies. You gain a number of Song of Defense points equal to your Intelligence modifier. You regain all points when you finish a long rest. When you take damage during your Bladesong, you can use your reaction to expend points to reduce that damage by 6 (1d12) per point spent. You can also expend spell slots to use this feature, which counts as spending points equal to the level of the spell slot.

Level 14: Song of Victory

You have mastered the weaving of sword and sorcery in one harmonious anthem. When you take the Magic action, you can make a single melee attack as a bonus action.
