The main headquarters of the Archivists, in central Greystone. This has been a center for learning since long before the Empire fell. The Archive was built on the site of the laboratory of Sira Blazefire, who became incredibly rich from her discovery of ashresin, which the Archivists still produces here to this day.
When it was founded, the Archive was outside the city walls, but over time Greystone has grown around the Archive grounds, and the mages here now have to make do with the space they have.
Landmarks and locations
The buildings of the Archive are made from the greystone for which the city takes it name, giving it an almost fortress-like appearance were it not for its roof of purple shingles.
Central Hall
Cassietta Library
The oldest and largest library in the League, where thousands upon thousands of arcane writings are catalogued. It is one of the largest troves of knowledge on the Material Plane. In here, fire is strictly prohibited, and light is provided only by spell or driftglobe.
Syrena Malloren
(aasimar sorcerer, NG): Scholar of Cassietta College who specializes in the lore of magical artifacts. She can usually be found in the library, reading some dusty tome by the light provided by her halo.
Portal Room
From here, several Teleportation Circles provide access to other Archive facilities. This is also where the entrance to the demiplane dormitories of Abelin College. Only Apprentices and higher ranks may use the teleportation services.
West Wing
The western wing holds several dormitories, common rooms, and a mess hall for the students and researchers who live on campus.
The Staff and Wand
A small student-run pub in the cellar, frequented by students and faculty alike. This is also the home to the Dragonchess club. While it is quiet during the day, it can get quite rowdy at night, and festivities often spill over into one of the dormitories around campus.
Benson Silversnap
(gnome, NG, 28): Apprentice of Blazefire College. He is the current school dragonchess champion. Benson usually spends his evenings in the Staff and Wand, tutoring others or playing challengers (+11). He uses a simple set of silver pieces that once belonged to his great-grandfather, who taught him the game when he was a boy.
Dueling Club
In order to test their mettle in a more controlled circumstance, the Archive organizes the Dueling Club. Here, those who want to prove themselves can face off in either friendly duels or small tournaments.
Jessica Cooper
(human wizard, LE, 17): Young raven-haired Novice of Dawnstar College. Her mastery of magic is far above what her age might suggest, and she is expected to do well at the next Trials. She is the current school dueling champion in the Novice division, and competes for the top spots in the Apprentice division, where she is by far the youngest competitor. She wields a Duelist's Wand.
Medical Office
Here, students can receive healing and medication if needed. It is not rare for several people to go straight from the Dueling Club to here on tournament nights.
East Wing
The east wing holds arcane research laboratories and the teaching halls where those with a gift for magic are taught. The Archmage's private study and apartments occupy the tallest tower, providing an excellent view of Quickwater Bay.
Archmage's Apartments
Archmage Hedwig Crimeon (The Archivists)
(tiefling, LN, 55): Archmage Hedwig Crimeon is the current leader of the Archivists. Starting from almost nothing, she used her considerable magical talent to join Abelin college as an apprentice and tirelessly worked her way up through the ranks. She now sits on the Council of Estia, the only Tiefling to do so. Crimeon is a master conjurer, able to call on creatures from other planes - her detractors say that she has gained her position through collusion with evil extra-planar forces, but this is usually dismissed as anti-tiefling prejudice.
Observatory
Prosperity Starwhisper
(astralite sorcerer, LN, 133): Examiner of Abelin College. Prosperity has midnight blue skin with glowing constellation patterns, and he is one of the top authorities on astronomical matters. During clear nights, he is often found meditating on top of the Observatory roof, gazing up at his stars.
Ashresin Laboratories
Many mages, especially from Blazefire College, find employment here after they finish their education. The making of ashresin is dangerous and dirty, but the process has been refined and improved over the centuries.
The laboratories has furnaces where reagents are incinerated to the right consistency, before they are left to settle in massive vats.
Aniara Ambersmelt
(gnome, LN, 98): Scholar of Blazefire College, who oversees the ashresin laboratories. She is an accomplished alchemist, who is very concerned with the safety of her workshop.
Grounds
The area around the main buildings is crisscrossed with cobble paths and dotted with large trees, providing shade for those who prefer to do their reading outside.
On the campus grounds there are large greenhouses where alchemical ingredients are grown, a dueling pitch where mages can show their mettle, and a small shrine to Odin.
Cometball Pitch
This is where Cometball teams practice between their games, which are usually held in the Greystone Arena. There are some seating available here for those who want to view the practice, but when Blazefire and Dawnstar face off, they draw crowds in the thousands. The facilities also include an outdoor gym, changing rooms, and equipment lockers for the teams.
Luke Staghammer
(human, LN, 23): Captain of the Dawnstar Cometball team. He enjoys his time in the spotlight, and will usually sign autographs (especially for the ladies) after his practice sessions. He is technically still a Novice, and has failed his Trials twice.
Greenhouses
Several large greenhouses lie by the bank of the Clearwater. Inside, students of Blazefire College tend to many species of alchemical plants.
Giles Ashfervor
(human, journeyman herbalist, LG, 23): Apprentice of Blazefire College. Giles helps run the greenhouses that supply ingredients for the Archivists. He has a somewhat meek appearance, but he is a deep fount of knowledge about magical plants and herbs. He also sells some potions and ingredients to the public.
Runestone Hollow
Surrounded by a twenty-foot tall lush hedge, a shrine to Odin provides a quiet place of worship. In the place of honor stands a large runestone, which bears the Archivist's motto in golden runes. Many students leave offerings here before the Trials for good luck.
Arynna nan Estiae
(high elf cleric, TN, 182): Scholar of Cassietta College, and attendant of the shrine.
